Principal Software Quality and Test Engineer

About this Role

Provide technical expertise, resource, mentoring and leadership for the Software Quality Assurance and Testing activities related to IT-provided application software and systems used by Parexel staff in daily business and/or clinical trial activities. Ensure the correctness of functional behavior, usability, maintainability, reliability, fitness for use, operational integrity, quality, stability and performance of all assigned Enterprise and Clinical Systems. Responsible for all aspects of Software Quality and Testing beginning with functional and design specification reviews through test design and execution, performance testing, regression testing, etc., all the way through system acceptance, maintenance and decommissioning. Mentor and develop the skills of more junior members of the IT QA team and other members of IT requesting such development in the areas of Software Quality and Test Engineering.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the quality control of functional or cross-functional systems and applications in line with Parexel Operations and Parexel Quality Management strategies.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and direction to lower-ranking IT QA staff.
  • Conduct Software Quality reviews of software functional requirements, logical designs and detailed physical designs.
  • Test internally developed software and commercial off the shelf (COTS) products to ensure quality of software delivery.
  • Ensure that software is tested according to SOPs, lifecycle methodologies and to regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct functional, high-level systems integration, performance and change regression testing of in-house developed software and customizations of third-party developed software.
  • Create or support the creation of test plans and test data.
  • Promote and maintain a positive, results-oriented work environment, building partnerships and modeling teamwork, communicating to the team in an open, balanced and objective manner.
  • Maintain extensive and open communications with IT development teams and vendor contacts as well as with Parexel business system owners and users to ensure priorities and strategy are aligned and understood. Ensure that priorities support the strategic goals of the business.

  • Perform project tasks in accordance with project timelines and required quality standards.
  • Keep manager(s) informed about work progress and any issues to avoid surprises.
  • Evaluate and suggest improvements in the software development process.
  • ReviewWeb pages for spelling, grammar and accuracy.
  • Provide and meet time estimates for assigned deliverables.
  • Presenttoandworkwith IT QA senior management to communicate knowledge, ideas, and opinions.
  • Participateinarchitecturalreviewsandanalysis toensuretheefficacyoftechnical solutions.
  • Other responsibilities and key result areas as required or assigned.

  • Experience with back-end, front-end and connectivity components of data warehouse applications.

  • Configuration and change management of software components and packages including defect/issue reporting and tracking.

  • B.S.inComputer Science or equivalent degree or work experience.

Language Skills

  • Native language and proficiency in verbal and written English.

Minimum Work Experience

  • Significant experience in software industry including experience in Software Quality and Test Engineering for Web and/or client/server applications.
  • IntermediateexperienceinWeb-relatedtechnologies, e.g., HTML, XML, SOAP.
  • Familiarity with Java, Javascript or other programming languages.
  • Experience with a modem software test automation product, e.g., WinRunner or QuickTest Professional.
  • Relevant IT infrastructure or software development work experience.
