Senior Developer, Digital Engagement

About this Role

Job Purpose:

To produce and support the technical development of digital projects within the Digital Engagement team, including the front-end build of interactive and online activities.

Project Planning and Delivery

  • Demonstrate strong project management capabilities to meet project deadlines, and achieve project milestones and client briefs, on time, within budget and to high levels of quality.
  • Take responsibility for the development and coding of more complex digital projects, for example, for a new client, for a new product, managing advanced functionality, or with multi-stakeholders and agencies.
  • Attend client briefing calls with the Specialist/Senior Specialist, and input into timelines, providing technical guidance on content whilst maintaining budget expectations.
  • Ensure proactive communication with the Specialist/Senior Specialist regarding digital development project status.
  • Ensure project delivery timelines/deliverable expectations are met.
  • Assist the Director and Account Manager with project tracking/input and maintenance.
  • Undertake the management of assigned projects according to agreed internal and client processes.
  • Ensure all development tasks are completed on time to a high-quality standard, within project scope and objectives.
  • Meet deadlines and achieve objectives through effective management of workload, organization, and prioritization.
  • Work closely with the Specialist/Senior Specialist to review delivery processes, identifying and sharing Best Practices to improve quality of service and overall efficiencies.
  • Ability to communicate and co-ordinate effectively with client IT team where necessary i.e. packaging/implementing digital solutions on clients hosting environment.

Financial support

  • Assist with specific project scoping.
  • Where requested provide input to the budgeting process, liaising with all relevant parties to help create an appropriate client budget.
  • Understand the budget specifications for all assigned projects. Work within the budgeted hours and communicate any changes in scope (CIS) to the Director and Account Manager.
  • Provide input to help support the Director and Account Manager with budget revisions and reconciliations to ensure budget accuracy.
  • Work with the Specialist/Senior Specialist in the Digital Engagement team to provide regular forecasting updates for all assigned projects.

Supplier Liaison

  • When required to, liaise with suppliers to co-ordinate tasks from start through to completion and work within supplier-specific systems, as required.
  • Provide clear and concise direction to suppliers, with an emphasis on attention to detail, to ensure first-time quality.


  • Maintain a positive, results orientated work environment, building partnerships and modelling teamwork, communicating to the team in an open, balanced manner.
  • Provide informed support, when necessary, to any of the other key service lines and departments.
  • Proactively seek and refine new and innovative approaches, solutions, and opportunities to improve project efficiency, results, and team performance, providing suggestions to the Director.
  • Have a strong awareness of digital technology and developments in the industry.
  • Understand how these digital enhancements can be applied to the healthcare industry.
  • Bring experience of working in an agency environment with standard practices and procedures expected in digital development in order to identify, support and implement where needed within the Digital Engagement team.

  • Code optimization and reusability - creating JS code libraries for functions and re-purposable feature modules.
  • Strong technical bug identification and fixing.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, including ability to prioritize work and define steps needed to achieve specified project tasks.
  • Strong time management skills with proven ability to multitask, running multiple projects and programs in parallel.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint). Experience with project management systems and Adobe Creative Cloud applications would be desirable.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of HTML5 (JavaScript, CSS and HTML).
  • High level JavaScript knowledge including jQuery.
  • AJAX and JSON database connectivity and integration.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of code testing across all devices/browsers and commitment to code quality with experience of unit, integration and automation testing techniques and performance optimization.
  • Experience of code repositories such as Git Hub or similar.
  • Client-facing experience essential.
  • Healthcare, CRO, Pharmaceutical Industry, Client or MedComs Agency experience is desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Digital Engagement.
  • Beneficial but not essential:
  • WordPress themes, plugin use and bespoke development.
  • Other languages: PHP, mySQL/PDO, WebGL(3D), C#, .Net.
  • JavaScript frameworks (React or similar).
  • Server-side JavaScript (Node.js).
  • CMS platforms and tools.
  • Back-end admin – LAMP (AWS) and/or Microsoft IIS(Azure).
  • Database design and creation.


  • Relevant degree and/or equivalent experience as above in a similar role is required.
