Ruthvik's journey as a Principal Statistical Programmer at Parexel reflects his dedication to advancing clinical research and improving patient outcomes. His expertise in SAS programming and clinical standards  enables him to make significant contributions in the clinical industry.

Let's get to know Ruthvik and his role a little more!

Why did you join Parexel?

I joined Parexel in 2017 as a Statistical Programmer II. It stood out to me as it’s a leading CRO with advanced technology, and a strong learning environment that allowed me to sharpen my skills in SAS programming and clinical standards.

What does your day-to-day look like?

My workday typically kicks off with reviewing and responding to emails before diving into my to-do list. I prioritize tasks based on project deadlines and spend a good portion of my day managing high-priority assignments. Collaboration is a key part of my role—I regularly interact with teammates, cross-functional leads, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are progressing smoothly.

A couple of short breaks during the day help me recharge, and I often catch up with colleagues over coffee. As the day winds down, I review the progress I’ve made and map out the next day’s plan before logging off.

What advice would you give someone starting in your role?

Be inquisitive and resilient. Stay open to learning, and remember, perseverance is key. Challenges will come, but it’s how you bounce back those matters. As one rightly says, "It isn’t about how hard you hit but it’s about how hard you can get hit and you keep moving forward without quitting". Remember a smooth sea never makes a great Sailor."

What essential skills does your role require?

Strong technical skills, communication, time management, and a willingness to learn. Resilience, accountability, and flexibility are also critical.

What set you apart when you were selected for this role?

My technical proficiency in SAS programming, experience, adaptability, and strong communication skills made a difference, along with a positive, tenacious attitude.

FOSTERING COLLABORATION AND INNOVATION AT PAREXEL

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from your colleagues?

I've learned from my Parexel colleagues is the power of genuine teamwork and support. They consistently demonstrate that quality deliverables result from collaborative efforts towards a focused goal. I've often seen team members, including leadership, stepping in to help each other even during their busiest times. This commitment to mutual support not only enhances our work quality but also fosters an inspiring work environment.

If you could describe Parexel's culture in one word, what would it be?

Perseverance. We've overcome many challenges, and it's our commitment to growth and adaptation that has made us one of the top CROs. We stand tall as one of the best and most widespread CROs because our team has consistently strived to learn, embrace change, and never give up.

QUICK HITS ABOUT RUTHVIK

What are your favourite ways to unwind?

After a long day, I like to unwind by spending quality time with my friends and family. I'm more of an active listener, so I enjoy hearing about their day and their stories. I love playing games such as FIFA, cricket, badminton, and strategic board games like Catan. I also relax by watching thrillers, sci-fi, and superhero movies or web series. Good food and a restful sleep complete my recipe for unwinding.

What book would you recommend?

In today's digital era, there's a wealth of content available, but I would recommend "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey. There is  also a creative 7-minute YouTube summary of the book, which is great for non-readers. I consider this a must-read or must-watch for anyone interested in personal development.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it at work?

If I could have any superpower, I'd choose "Speed" like The Flash. As a statistical programmer, I'd use this ability to make quick decisions, validate data rapidly, and identify issues in the blink of an eye. I think this superpower would be invaluable in our fast-paced work environment, allowing me to complete tasks efficiently without compromising quality. I believe it would help improve decision-making, reduce quality issues, cut production time and costs, and ultimately strengthen customer relationships.
