Let’s get to know Anthony and his role a little more!

What is your Parexel story?

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native Anthony Palmieri has worked as a Medical Writer for more than 17 years, 10 of which have been spent at Parexel. Anthony is what we call a “Boomerang” — an employee who leaves Parexel and then returns. In fact, he has “boomeranged” more than once, first joining Parexel as a Medical Writing Associate in 2006 and staying with us until 2017. After a series of moves and opportunities — both externally and internally, including a contractor role with Parexel — he rejoined the team fulltime in May 2023.

What motivates you to work With Heart™ every day?

Working as a medical writer motivates me every day — knowing that my work contributes to lifesaving treatments and therapies is fulfilling. The intellectual challenge, collaborative environment and opportunities for professional growth also is a strong motivator.

Reflecting on your work at Parexel, what are you most proud of and why?

Throughout my work at Parexel, I take pride in the meaningful contributions I've made to helping drugs receive approval from regulatory authorities. Writing and assisting in the development of clinical trial protocols and regulatory documents allows me to contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge and the availability of safe and effective therapies for patients. Knowing that my work has played a role in bringing potentially lifesaving treatments to patients is incredibly fulfilling, and it serves as a constant reminder of the impact our collective efforts can have.

What is one way you always keep “Patients First?”

When faced with challenges, I draw inspiration from the patients who are eagerly awaiting the breakthrough treatments we work on. Their needs and aspirations for a healthier life serve as a constant reminder of the impact our work can have. Whether it's developing innovative therapies or running complex clinical trials, the knowledge that our efforts directly contribute to improving patient care and potentially saving lives motivates me to persevere, overcome obstacles and stay focused on our mission of putting patients first.

Share a favorite Parexel memory:

I initially interviewed at Parexel for a CRA position, however, it was determined that it was not the right fit. Instead, the HR specialist suggested I investigate a vacant Medical Writing Associate role. Having never heard of Medical Writing before, I thoroughly investigated the field and agreed that it would be a good fit. After a great interview with the hiring manager, little did I know that I would still be a medical writer after 17 years! I am forever thankful for the person that didn’t give up on me and suggested exploring medical writing.

What is something about you that would surprise people?

I am hearing impaired and have been wearing hearing aids since I was three years old. Although I am partially deaf in both ears, I have been able to excel at Parexel.

What do you enjoy when you’re not at work?

Outside of work, I am an avid adventurer. I love exploring the mountains through hiking, indulging in primitive camping, and embarking on overlanding trips. Navigating to hidden waterfalls is a personal passion of mine, and I enjoy the tranquility of kayaking. Additionally, I have a keen interest in collecting Pittsburgh-related sports memorabilia.
