This role will work within ourAI Labs’ department which is an innovative team that will build and deploy leading AI-driven solutions to improve workflows common across both Parexel and the life sciences industry. The team partner and support the business in building best-in-class AI-driven solutions when nothing suitable exists.

This role is to be based in the UK and can be either office based (Uxbridge) or fully home based anywhere in the UK. The office is open planned, and you will be working in an innovative and collaborative environment with your international peers and colleagues.

As the Full Stack Engineer II, you will be responsible for the development of AI Labs’ software applications. You will work with other engineers to write, test, and release front and back-end code according to the product roadmap. You will work closely with other engineers to implement well-scoped features and be able to take the feature and break it down into sub-tasks for yourself and other engineers. As the Full Stack Engineer II, you will be expected to report the status of the project at any time and raise any blocking issues with management. Finally, you will work with the Engineering Manager as well as Senior Engineers to help create the roadmap for the engineering team.

Key Accountabilities:

Software Engineering

•    Understand customer, product and user requirements to develop, test, and ship software applications that meet their needs.
•    Develop back-end / server-side software to serve application requests, query databases, and format and deliver data.
•    Develop front-end software and user experiences using the latest application programming frameworks, libraries and languages.

Architect and contribute code to software infrastructure

•    Build internal frameworks, libraries, and infrastructure to improve software architecture and to allow for rapid prototyping and new product delivery.

•    Collaborate with NLP engineers, QA, and product managers to build and maintain roadmap, and implement best practices.

•    Create and maintain application documentation to enable other engineers to utilize the stack.

•    Review and improve the code of other engineers to enhance quality and security.

•    Work with product management and quality assurance to test and validate completed features and bug fixes before deploying to the appropriate environments.

•    Create unit tests, end to end tests, performance tests, and automated tests to ensure high code quality.

Contribute to Product and Customer Satisfaction

•    Collaborate with Product Management to define and implement features to satisfy customer and user requirements.
•    Partner with other engineers to maintain quality work and anticipate problems.
•    Participate in sprint planning and check-in meetings to identify customer needs, potential roadblocks and solutions.
•    Bring new ideas to the table and foster a culture of continuous integration.

Education:
•    Educated to degree level in engineering or computer science or other relevant qualification/experience.

Skills:
•    Strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
•    Python, JavaScript/Typescript, React, HTML/CSS 
•    Experience with API development in Flask (Python) or Express/similar (Nodejs)
•    Experience with frontend development in Nextjs or similar
•    Broad skillset with database technologies including Postgres and DynamoDB
•    Ability to monitor database/application uptime and performance
•    Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
•    A flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and new learning 
•    Ability to manage multiple tasks with enthusiasm and prioritize workload with attention to detail
•    Willingness to work in a team environment and to value the importance of teamwork.

Knowledge and Experience: 
•    Strong experience as a Ful Stack Engineer or Developer is essential.

• Experience working in applications with RESTful JSON API endpoints is important.
•    Experience with AWS and Docker is essential.
•    Experience with the following tools: JIRA, Confluence, Docker, Git, GitHub, Sumologic, AWS serverless resources (Lambda, DynamoDB, etc)
•    Life Science industry experience in similar roles is desirable.
