About This Role

The Head of Clinical Outcomes Assessment Science has overall responsibility for the COA Science function and technical area. It is a leadership and managerial position that is involved in strategic decision-making with a significant impact on the success of the overall function, contributing to the corporate success of clinical trials, observational studies, and Regulatory & Access consulting related to COAs. This position is responsible for managing COA Scientists and for establishing and/or developing corporate and/or organizational responsibility policies and authorizes their implementation.

Key Accountabilities:

Service Line Business Planning

  • Develops high growth and profitable business through strategic planning, business development and implementation of high-level service delivery within service line or group

  • Responsible for planning function for individual service line or group; including includes budgets, strategic planning, and forecasting

  • Accountable for all activity and financial outcomes within assigned area, including revenue generation, client satisfaction and service delivery

Project Execution

  • Monitors profitability of multiple projects through active involvement in the preparation of project plans and management of project budgets

  • Works within a team environment or individually based on project needs

  • Prioritizes own work-load and prioritizes the work-load of the project team in order to achieve the project scope and objectives

  • Produces quality work that meets the expectations of Parexel Real-World Evidence and the client. Reviews the work of colleagues for content and quality to ensure the expectations of the client and are met

  • Manages project engagements as a project lead (small or large)

Staff Management

  • Actively manages performance including typical HR activities for direct reports (i.e., performance management forms, salary actions, bonuses, scorecards)

  • Provides applicable guidance and support to staff in order for staff to succeed and achieve key metrics. Holds staff accountable to key metrics

  • Facilitates staff development plans and coordinates with project staffing to ensure that staff is utilized completely and appropriately

  • Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, feedback and role modeling to managers and extended staff to ensure quality and accuracy of services as well as achievement of key metrics

  • Regularly communicates with staff to assure effective two-way information flow (i.e., business updates, staff interests, issues, and/or concerns)

  • Provides feedback on succession planning to align individual staff capabilities with the current and future needs of the organization

Consulting Activities and Relationship Management

  • Identifies opportunities for follow-on business or changes in project scope and exploits the opportunities with Parexel Real-World Evidence management and account management

  • Provides a full range of technical and/or business consulting services across multiple disciplines of services including representing clients to regulatory agencies

  • Acts as a trusted advisor to clients, often on issues that lack precedent or are not clearly defined. Acts as a loaned executive for a client when required

Business Development

  • Actively prospects and leverages new business opportunities with client and industry contacts in collaboration with Account Management

  • Presents information about Parexel Real-World Evidence service offerings reflecting the organization’s capability to support client needs

  • Delivers customized sales presentations focused on the client’s needs. Actively engaged in bid pursuit meetings when needed

  • Generates new or repeat business due to personal name recognition or history of client satisfaction and/or relationship

  • Delivers sales presentations and participates in bid pursuit meetings when needed

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Must be proficient in COA Science methods (e.g., psychometrics, qualitative and quantitative methods, interviews, survey research)

  • A flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and new learning

  • Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm and prioritize workload with attention to detail

  • Willingness to work in a matrix environment and to value the importance of teamwork

Knowledge and Experience:

Minimum of 15 years’ experience in clinical outcomes assessments; with extensive managerial experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnical or medical device industries and experience managing direct reports, directing teams and projects.

Education:

Minimum of a master’s degree (e.g., MA, MPH, MSc, MPhil, MS) in a scientific discipline (e.g. Psychology, Outcomes Research, Epidemiology); an advanced degree (e.g., PhD, ScD, DPhil, DrPH) preferred.
